Public Housing

The Housing Authority of Tampa owns and manages eighteen public housing developments throughout the City of Tampa, Florida. Of the eighteen developments, two are designated as elderly only and the remaining ones are designated as family developments. The Public Housing Program consists of more than 3,219 housing units providing affordable housing to more than 7,000 low-income families and citizens in Tampa Florida.

The Housing Authority has undertaken the most comprehensive plan in the City’s history to improve the physical conditions of its units and to expand the number of affordable housing units. The first phase spending over $13,000,000 completed major renovation of the Housing Authority’s scattered communities. The modernization focused on major system replacements; infrastructure such as heating and plumbing; and kitchen and bathroom upgrades. Major landscaping, wall-to-wall carpet and building enhancements were also included to enable the scattered sites to look and compete with market rate apartment complexes. The Housing Authority in the process of completing several HOPE VI and tax credit projects that will expand its affordable housing units.

The Department of Public has direct responsibility for the overall administration of the Housing Authority’s public housing program. Its administration consists of the Director of the Department, the Property Administrator who has line supervision of the Property Managers, Property Management staff and maintenance service. There are over 125 employees in the Department. Key information on the Department is as follows
